Why re-invent the wheel?
Secure Credit Card Processing -
Online credit card transactions are technologically sophisticated and complex. It would be foolish (and expensive) for St. Luke’s to set up a stand-alone donation processing system. Instead we have formed a relationship with an established online donation processing organization: CanadaHelps.org.
What is “CanadaHelps”?
CanadaHelps is a public charitable foundation (896568417RR0001), that provides access to Canada’s 85,000 charities, from national organizations like national cancer charities to smaller groups like local animal shelters and soup kitchens. Arts groups, museums, and many religious organizations are all part of this smart and easy-to-use donation portal.
How does it work?
There are links on our website – like the one at the top of this page – which provide a “click here” with the request that you make a donation. Clicking on any one of them will take you to St. Luke’s own page at CanadaHelps.
Enter an amount, indicate whether it is a “one time” or a “repeating” donation, and specify a parish “fund” that your gift will support. The default is “building fund”, but click on “building fund” and you will be shown some other parish funds and their explanations. You may add a message to us, or specify that your gift is to honour someone, or to mark a special occasion, or to remember someone who has died.
Next, you will be invited to review or change your gift. CanadaHelps suggests that you give a little extra ($3) to fund their operation, but you are not obliged to do so.
Once satisfied with your donation, click on “checkout.” If you have not previously done so, you will be asked to create an identity at CanadaHelps but that is completely optional. You need simply enter credit card information, and personal facts required to generate a tax-creditable receipt.
You get an instant tax-creditable receipt, and St. Luke’s is notified immediately about your gift. As soon as possible, we will send you a thank-you note via Canada Post.
Are there hidden charges?
St. Luke’s will pay a service charge of 3% of your gift. That is all. This is a normal banking fee, and is offset by a considerable reduction in our staff costs usually required for accounting and preparing tax-creditable receipts.
That’s all there is to it!
So, if you’re ready, click here, and make a donation to St. Luke’s right now.
